STYES

It is an infection that causes a tender red lump on the eyelid. Most styes occur along the borders of the eyelid.


Causes
  • Bacterial infection

Signs and symptoms
  • Swelling of eye lid
  • Pain in the eye lid
  • Watery eyes
  • Most styes swell for about 3 days prior to they break open and drain.
  
Management
  • Apply lukewarm, wet compresses over the eyes for 5 to 10 minutes, 4 to 6 times a day.
  • Don't squeeze the stye . Let it open on its own
  • Don't wear eye makeup or contact lenses until the area has healed

Prevention
  • Never rub your eyes. This can irritate your eyes and let in bacteria.
  • Protect your eyes from dust and air pollution when you can
  • Wear safety glasses when you do dusty household tasks
  • Replace eye makeup at least every 4 to 6 months. Bacteria can grow in the makeup.
  • Wash your eyelids regularly with a little bit of baby shampoo mixed in warm water
  • Treat any eyelid inflammation or infection on time

CONSTIPATION

Constipation is very common problem among children. Constipation means difficulty in passing stools. This occurs when your child have 2 bowel movements or less than that each week.

Causes
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Stress
  • Travelling
  • Lack of exercise
  • Overuse of laxatives
  • Diabetes
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Hypercalcemia
  • Colon cancer
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Piles
  • Anal fissures    
Signs and symptoms
  • Sensation of abdominal fullness
  • Bloating of abdomen
  • Straining requires to pass the stools
  • Sometimes little blood on the toilet paper
   
Management
  • Make your child to go daily for stools at defined time
  • Give more fluids to your child
  • Give foods that are rich in fiber (e.g., fruits and vegetables)
  • Regular exercise
Prevention
  • Avoid burgers, fries, milk shakes
  • Avoid candy, cookies, sugary soft drinks)
  • Tell your child to go to the bathroom and sit on the toilet for at least 10 minutes daily  at the same time, sooner after a meal
  • Give more fluids to your child
  • Give fruits that are rich in fiber (e.g., guava and banana)
  • Give vegetables that are rich in fiber (e.g., green vegetables)
  • Regular exercise

OTALGIA AND HOMEOPATHY

 

Otalgia or earache is defines as pain in ear. This is more common problem in children. Pain in the ear make the patient very uncomfortable. The Pain may increase on lying down due to increased blood supply to the ear in the recumbent position. 
Causes:
1.     Middle ear infections
2.     Perichondritis
3.     Foreign body in ear
4.     Ear injury
5.     Swimmers ear
6.     Fluid in ear

7.     Barotraumas
8.     Perforated ear drum  

Sign and symptoms
1. Frequent boring of fingers at the ears
2. Child puts their  head on the side of pillow
3. Discharge from ear may be thick clear or yellowish, and sometimes bloody and sometimes fluid
4. Loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea
5. Crying more than usual
6. Restless sleeps
7. A fever of 38°C or higher
8. very bad smell from the ear

Management & Prevention
1.      Avoid passive smoking.
2.      Wash your Childs hands properly
3.      Have your child immunized regularly
4.      Feed your infant in a fairly upright position
5.      Proper breast-feeding your baby  
6.      Never  allow infants to fall asleep with a bottle
7.      Teach your child how to blow their nose gently. 
8.      Tell your child to avoid contact with other children who have colds.
